Privacy Policy
American Wired is a Georgia-based publication covering technology, business, and innovation. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have as a reader or registered member.
Effective July 23, 2026
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in three general ways: information you give us directly, information collected automatically as you use the site, and information from third-party sign-in providers.
Information you provide
- Account details, such as your name, email address, and profile information, when you register for a free American Wired account.
- Content you submit, including comments, replies, and emoji reactions on articles.
- Newsletter preferences and the email address you provide to receive our technology and business coverage.
- Any information you include when you contact our editorial or support team.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data, such as browser type, pages viewed, referring pages, and approximate location derived from IP address.
- Reading activity used to power features like bookmarks and a personalized reading experience.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve American Wired.
- Create and manage your account and personalize your reading experience.
- Deliver the newsletter and other communications you have opted into.
- Moderate comments and reactions to keep discussions constructive.
- Understand how readers engage with our coverage so we can plan future reporting.
- Protect the security and integrity of the site and its members.
3. Membership Features
Creating a free American Wired account unlocks comments, bookmarks, emoji reactions, and our newsletter. Comments and reactions are public and displayed alongside your profile name. Bookmarks and reading preferences are private and visible only to you.
You can update your profile information or delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account removes your public comments and profile, though some information may be retained as described in Section 7.
5. Third-Party Services
American Wired offers sign-in through Google. When you sign in this way, Google shares basic profile information (such as your name, email address, and profile photo) with us, subject to Google’s own privacy practices. We do not receive your Google password.
We may also use third-party analytics and infrastructure providers to help operate the site. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
6. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us run American Wired, when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of American Wired, our readers, or the public. If American Wired is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
7. Data Retention
We retain account and usage information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. We may retain limited information after account deletion where necessary for legal, security, or record-keeping purposes.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of that information.
- Opt out of the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12.
9. Children’s Privacy
American Wired is intended for a general professional and adult readership. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
